Chief Sender of Hugs receives University of Sheffield Distinguished Alumni Award
On 16th July, I had the incredible honour of being given The University of Sheffield Robert Boucher Distinguished Alumni Award. Seven years after graduating as a Speech and Language Therapist, I was asked to speak at one of this year’s graduation ceremonies about my journey to become Chief Sender of Hugs.
I was presented with a very shiny medal with my name on and had the surreal experience of having a speech written about me read to the audience of graduands. I'm not sure I've ever been so simultaneously terrified and grateful. The bonkers grin in the second photo below doesn't really do my nerves justice!
It was an incredibly sweet touch that I was also given my very own University of Sheffield bear with a mortar board that matched my own!
I wasn't sure I deserved such an award, but I'm trying to shake off those imposter syndrome feelings and soak up what a special thing it is. I'm really happy I got to share it with my ever supportive family who really have been BearHugs' biggest cheerleaders since day one. My sister is never going to let me live down the fact that I somehow managed to use the word 'bamboozled' at such a fancy event!
