International Women's Day and the Disability Employment Gap

I love International Women’s Day. It’s always so heartwarming seeing women celebrate themselves and women who inspire them. I love that there’s a whole day that with a focus on togetherness, reflection, advocacy and action on women’s issues.

This International Women’s Day, I hope that more than ever, the voices of disabled women, and how they can best be supported, are included in the conversation.

At BearHugs, we’re particularly interested in accessible employment, and so, today, seemed the perfect time to shine a light on something we care a lot about - employment opportunities (or lack thereof) for disabled women.

Able Magazine, a UK-based Disability Lifestyle magazine, has written about BearHugs in their recent article ‘ Fighting Back Against The Disability Employment Gap’.

The article focuses on the 17 social entrepreneurs from around the UK who have won funding as part of a new programme which aims to close the disability employment gap through the creation of new jobs and skills development opportunities for disabled people.
